GRAPHIC DESIGN & VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS

The course in Graphic Design & Visual Communications is structured as a sequence of connected communication systems, not as a set of isolated software skills. Students move from typography and composition into editorial design, digital interface systems and brand identity, completing a substantial project at the end of each module.

Programme

The first module establishes the formal foundations of graphic design.

Module 1 develops typography, colour theory, page structure and composition through a poster project.

Module 2 carries these principles into print and editorial design, adding concept development, typographic grids, systems and visual identity. The final project of this stage is a magazine, requiring students to organise information consistently across a multi-page format.

Module 3 shifts the same system-based thinking into digital interaction. Students are introduced to UX research and design systems in Figma, then apply them to a website and mobile app project. Producing screens is not the only concern in this module: students also learn how hierarchy, repeated components and user-oriented structure extend the principles of composition and information organisation into an interactive environment.

Module 4 focuses on brand visual identity. Students develop a logo as one element within a broader identity system, then extend the system into a campaign concept and its visual elements. The final advertising campaign brings together concept, consistency and adaptation across applications. Across the four modules, the work builds on itself: formal principles become editorial systems, digital systems and finally a complete identity, producing four substantial projects for the student’s portfolio.

What You Will Learn

  • work with typography, colour, composition and page structure
  • develop concepts for print and editorial projects
  • use typographic grids and visual systems
  • conduct basic UX research
  • build interface design systems in Figma
  • develop logos and broader brand identity systems
  • translate a brand idea into a campaign
  • build portfolio-ready projects across several areas of graphic design

How You Learn

Each module combines a focused body of knowledge with a complete project. Each module carries skills from the previous one forward: typography and composition become the basis for editorial systems; system thinking continues into digital interfaces; and the same discipline is applied to identity and campaign work. Students therefore learn through repeated cycles of concept development, visual testing, critique, refinement and final presentation.

Outcome

A broad graphic-design foundation supported by four substantial projects across poster design, editorial design, UI/UX and brand identity. The completed work is intended to contribute to a professional portfolio, and the programme concludes with a Grant Arts Center certificate.
