PRINT DESIGN / PREPRESS

Print Design / Prepress focuses on the stage where a visual layout has to become a technically reliable printed object. The course connects design decisions with production requirements, helping students understand how colour, page structure and file preparation change when work moves from screen to print.

Programme

Work starts with the technical preparation of visual layouts for print. Students learn how a file must be structured when it is no longer intended only for a screen, and how production requirements affect decisions that may appear purely visual during the design stage. Students learn exactly what has to change between a finished layout and reliable print-ready material.

Colour correction and multi-page layout form the next part of the programme. Students work with consistency across sequences of pages and learn to identify how colour needs to be prepared for printed output. Page structure, image preparation and technical checking are treated as parts of one production workflow, helping students recognise problems before they reach the printing stage.

The course also covers the specific requirements of different printing technologies. There is no single export routine for every job: preparation has to respond to the conditions of the chosen printing process. Work therefore develops through checking, correction and technical decision-making, with the final goal of producing files that preserve the design while meeting the practical requirements of professional print production.

What You Will Learn

  • prepare layouts correctly for print
  • work with colour correction for printed output
  • organise multi-page publications
  • understand the technical requirements of different printing processes
  • identify production issues before a file reaches print

How You Learn

Students work through the production stages that sit between a finished visual concept and a reliable print-ready file. Checking, correction and technical judgement are central to the work: layouts are not considered complete until they are prepared for the conditions in which they will actually be produced.

Outcome

A practical understanding of professional prepress workflow and the ability to prepare print projects with greater control over colour, page structure and technical production requirements.
